Sónar by DaySonarHall - LIVE
Matthew Dear’s alter ego
Audion is the side project of the artist better known as Matthew Dear. His new live show, entitled "Subverticul" will see Audion work with Heather Shaw and Alex Lazarus from Vita Motus Design Studio (responsible for the ISAM and Amon Tobin shows presented at Sónar 2012) to mount an audiovisual experience that reconfigures the way live electronic music is presented: a show in which LED’s and kaleidoscopic lights outline a visual labyrinthine structure based on the "A" in Audion, that will beat, spin and grow in response to the music. In recent years (since 2009 to be precise) Audion has taken a back seat, due to the hectic schedule of Dear and his live two-album band tour across half the globe. Audion now resurfaces with "Audion X", a ten year retrospective of its best tracks and an album that is in fact a prelude to something bigger: a new album of unreleased music later this year and a new live stage show. Dear’s more dance floor alias first appeared in 2004, with two EPs, "Kisses" and "The Pong" followed a year later by album "Suckfish". Robotic narratives, dirty minimalism and a minimalist aesthetic: Audion is the perfect mechanism to steer techno into its more hypnotic state.
