The new techno wonder kid
What were you doing when you were 16? Samir Alikhanizadeh from Leeds, England had just turned 16 when he began producing high quality techno under the moniker Happa. Within months, Samir had converted heavyweights like Skream, Annie Mac, Zed Bias, Loefah and Ben UFO to his sound and remixed for artists such as Four Tet and Vondelpark, delivering sets for the Mary Anne Hobb’s program on XFM and Mixmag’s ‘Mix of the Week’ series. His two singles for Church and Boomkat Editions confirm the hype surrounding him is more than justified and it is no exaggeration to say that Happa is making some of the most exciting, original, powerful and unconventional music on today’s scene. His work combines a somewhat brutal techno aesthetic blended with a British bass sound and even ventures into the darkest industrial, noise and hypnagogic pop realm.
