New life away from the dancefloor
Duo James Ford and Jas Shaw return to Sónar 2014 presenting their new project, "Whorl", in which both musicians replace their usual cornucopia of equipment with a single instrument each, an analog synthesizer and a sequencer. With these minimal elements, and in the classic tradition of key influences like Tangerine Dream, they will record an album ‘live’ this April in just one take, at the Joshua Tree National Park in California, which will be released on the amazing Anti label (home to Kronos Quartet, Tom Waits and Beth Orton, among others). The British duo will therefore momentarily park their globally famous Simian Mobile Disco alias, to experiment with a new ‘dance music free’ format, which will this time be performed in SonarHall (Sónar by Day). Their show will also include an important visual component created especially for this small live tour (just a few dates at chosen festivals and museums) by regular collaborators Jack Featherstone and Hans Lo.
