Tiga
(Turbo / CA)
The Great White North’s most tantalizing techno export
Born in Montreal, Tiga is one of the most important figures in electronica to come out of Canada and one of the most creative and respected names throughout the international scene. His 20 years of services rendered include his work as a DJ, producer, promoter, A & R and owner of a record label, a portfolio so extensive that to write a summary of his biography is a complicated task. Let's attempt to do so: responsible for popularizing acid house and electro clash in Canada, he was also promoter of the country’s first rave and owner of the first specialised record store in Montreal. In 1998 he founded label Turbo which hosts one of the most comprehensive catalogues of house and electro, releasing albums and EPs from artists like Chromeo, Azari & III, Untold, Randomer, Ed DMX, Moby, Gesaffelstein, Brodinski, Boys Noize and ZZT (his project together with Zombie Nation). It is also necessary to mention his infamous mix CDs, "American Gigolo", "Mixed Emotions" and a mix for the DJ Kicks series, as well as remixes for Soulwax, Fever Ray, Scissor Sisters, The Killers and The XX, among others. And, of course, his own productions, with acclaimed hits like "Sunglasses at Night" (one of the biggest dance music tracks of the early 2000s), "Pleasure From The Bass", "You Gonna Want Me" and "Let 's Go Dancing" (a recent collaboration with Matthew Dear), along with the albums "Sexor" and "Ciao!".
